I was thinking of David Fredrickson and his obsession with Jacques Derida. Something I too have been fascinated with. Yi-Fu Tuan has been described as an environmental architect and he taught briefly here in MN. There's something here that helps describes the "longing for the other" in relationship that resonates for David in Paul.
